High Temperature Fan Applications
High temperature fans are used in processes where exhaust gases exceed standard operating temperatures. Common applications include:
- Dryer exhaust systems (80-150°C)
- Incinerator exhaust (up to 400°C)
- Boiler induced draft fans (up to 350°C)
- Kiln exhaust systems (up to 600°C)
Material Selection by Temperature Range
80-150°C Range
Standard carbon steel (Q235B) is adequate for this range. Use galvanized steel if corrosion is also a concern.
150-300°C Range
At temperatures above 150°C, standard steel begins to lose strength. Recommended materials:
- 16Mn (low-alloy steel): Up to 300°C
- 0Cr18Ni9 (304 stainless steel): Up to 800°C
- 1Cr18Ni9Ti (321 stainless steel): Up to 900°C
Above 300°C
For extreme temperature applications:
- Heat-resistant cast steel for fan housing
- Inconel alloy for blade surfaces above 600°C
- Ceramic fiber insulation on external surfaces
Critical Design Considerations
- Thermal expansion: Allow adequate clearance between rotating and stationary parts. Design expansion joints in ductwork.
- Bearing protection: Keep bearings outside the hot gas stream using shaft-mounted cooling fans or water-cooled bearing housings.
- Blade coating: Apply ceramic thermal barrier coating on blades to extend material life at extreme temperatures.
