This boss, who seems to be "not focusing on the main business," has led the company to achieve record-high output value!

It's hard to imagine that a boss managing over 300 employees would dedicate three days to traveling 3,740 kilometers round-trip just to visit the homes of ten staff members.

Beyond that, he frequently organizes activities: a Chinese classics parent-child summer camp during vacation, themed sharing sessions for Father's Day, and a "Model Daughter-in-Law" contest for Mother's Day. In his own words, "Most of my time is spent on employee care."

Do these seemingly "non-core" activities directly impact the company's order intake? The boss admits "they have no direct effect."

Yet it is precisely this subtle, nurturing corporate culture that has proven its power in today's challenging environment. "The entire company is united as one—we will never give up until we overcome these difficulties."

This cohesive atmosphere enabled the company to rebound swiftly from a brief downturn in 2024, returning to its 2023 peak levels this year. Monthly order volumes continue to climb, with projected annual output reaching 237 million yuan by year-end—a new record high.

The company in question is Guangdong Xinfeng Fan Co., Ltd. (hereafter "Xinfeng Fan"). Recently, Environmental Circle conducted an exclusive interview with Xinfeng Fan's Chairman Wu Manhui, who shared his unique insights and experiences in corporate management.

On the morning of August 2nd, a special parent-child activity was taking place in the fifth-floor conference room of Xinfeng Fan's Phase III factory building in Deqing County, Guangdong Province.

Dozens of families from Xinfeng Fan participated in the event. Children first watched a video depicting the ten-month pregnancy journey, gaining insight into their mothers' sacrifices. Parents were then blindfolded as their children stuck bubble gum on their faces, causing everyone to laugh heartily. Next, children used colored markers to draw "My Parents Through My Eyes" on acrylic panels. Finally, parents were blindfolded once more as their children picked up spoons to feed them, expressing gratitude for their nurturing care.

Through this event, children gained insight into their parents' hardships, while parents felt the appreciation from their children. Dozens of families spent a joyful morning together.

The Xinfeng Classical Studies Parent-Child Summer Camp runs annually, with this year marking its fourth session. A total of 107 children and volunteers participated, divided into two classes based on age: the Junior Class and the Senior Class.

The camp's organizer is not an educational institution, but rather a fan manufacturer—Xinfeng Fan. Established in 2006 with registered capital of 80 million yuan, the company is headquartered in Nan Village, Guangzhou, with its factory located in Deqing, Zhaoqing. Spanning 100 acres, the facility employs 300 staff members.

Xinfeng Fan specializes in manufacturing industrial and commercial ventilation equipment. Its products are widely used across sectors including chemical engineering, petroleum, metallurgy, power generation, cement production, new energy, food processing, pharmaceuticals, papermaking, and printing/packaging. They are also deployed in high-temperature, high-humidity environments and settings involving corrosive gases.

Those encountering Xinfeng for the first time quickly notice its distinctiveness—a statue of Confucius stands before the company building, and on the first working day after the Spring Festival each year, all employees collectively pay homage to Confucius. Beyond this, the company also engages in numerous "side ventures."

For instance, on June 14 this year, Xinfeng hosted a Father's Day themed sharing event titled "Dear Dad, Thank You! To the First Lighthouse in Our Lives." In May for Mother's Day, Xinfeng hosted the "Gratitude to Parents, Warmth at Xinfeng" Mother's Day special event alongside the third "Xinfeng's Best Daughter-in-Law" awards ceremony.

From May 3rd to May 5th, Xin Feng Fanji Chairman Wu Manhui personally led a team on a three-day, four-night journey spanning 3,740 kilometers across Sichuan, Chongqing, and Guizhou provinces. They visited the homes of ten Xin Feng employees, including one who had left the company two years prior.

This initiative is one of Xinfeng's longstanding traditions. They conduct similar thousand-mile home visits annually, having previously traveled to Jiangxi, Hunan, western Guangdong, Qingyuan, and other regions.

Beyond this, Xinfeng provides complimentary three meals and snacks daily, hosts regular employee birthday celebrations, and maintains an internal charity fund for assisting employees in need and awarding scholarships to employees' children.

In short, this is an "unconventional" wind turbine manufacturer. Many of their initiatives seem unrelated to business operations. Even Chairman Wu Manhui admits, "Most of my time is spent on team building and employee care." So why do they do this?

"You say giving employees benefits will impact production and operations—that's just an excuse."

Wu Manhui, hailing from the rural town of Shuangtang in Jinxi County, Jiangxi Province, arrived in Guangdong alone with dreams and courage to forge his own path. Starting as a sales representative at a ventilation equipment factory in Jiangmen, he gradually rose to become sales department manager. In 2006, he founded Guangzhou Xinfeng Ventilation Equipment Co., Ltd. (the predecessor of Xinfeng Fan), embarking on his entrepreneurial journey.

He states that Xinfeng Fan is deeply influenced by China's outstanding traditional culture. Guided by the ethos of virtue and scholarship, the company is committed to building a corporate culture centered on this heritage. Every employee is regarded as family, nurtured with care within this extended household.

The "Thousand-Mile Home Visit" initiative exemplifies this commitment. Its purpose is to forge a connection between employees' original families and the company's extended family, tightly binding them together.

"Our employees work here while also being the pillars of their families. Without family support, they cannot focus on their jobs. Through home visits, we share the company's living conditions with their parents and report on the employees' work performance, so their families can feel at ease," said Wu Manhui.

The annual Xinfeng Summer Camp addresses the challenge of caring for employees' children during summer break. While children attend school with teachers during the academic year, they often have nowhere to go once summer arrives. Xinfeng brings them to the company, hiring professional instructors to teach classes and organizing parent-child activities.

"Through these activities, children gain empathy for their parents' challenges while developing good habits—like queuing for rides, yielding in elevators, and finishing meals completely. After 40 days, every child undergoes a transformative change. These are lessons money can't buy elsewhere," said Wu Manhui.

Additionally, every Mother's Day, Xinfeng hosts a "Good Daughter-in-Law" award ceremony. This initiative tackles a problem even the Women's Federation struggles with—conflicts between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law. Since such conflicts are "a universal mystery," Xinfeng's approach focuses on guiding them to express affection, emphasizing that home isn't a place for arguing over principles.

"The local Women's Federation chairperson attends our annual 'Xinfeng Good Daughter-in-Law' awards ceremony to present prizes, showing strong endorsement. One supervising official remarked that if all communities and village committees followed Xinfeng's model, social issues and crime rates would halve," Wu Manhui shared.

In short, through activities like parent-child summer camps, model daughter-in-law contests, and long-distance home visits, Xinfeng has effectively addressed employees' family relationships—parent-child, marital, and parent-child—helping them eliminate worries at home.

Does organizing these activities incur significant costs? Wu Manhui explains that the expenses are minimal. They don't have dedicated teams; most tasks are handled by employees on a part-time basis. Take the long-distance home visits, for example—it's simply a matter of bringing local specialties to employees' homes or giving red envelopes, which doesn't cost much. The summer camp is the most expensive, costing around 200,000 yuan annually.

"Even if we were to multiply these employee benefits several times over from their current levels, it wouldn't impact the company's operations. The real factors affecting the company stem from the broader business environment, our internal management, product quality, and production efficiency. To claim that providing employee benefits affects production and operations is really just an excuse," he said.

"After years of accumulation, the corporate culture has finally demonstrated its power."

Since the real impact stems from the broader environment, has Xinfeng felt the chill of that environment over the past two years?

Wu Manhui admitted that the company's performance last year was indeed poor, with annual revenue only half of what it was in 2023. "Anyone who's run a business would hear that number and wonder, 'How did you survive?'"

It was precisely during this period that he witnessed the power of corporate culture. When most companies struggle to cover expenses and face unsustainable operations, morale inevitably plummets, and employees scatter in search of other opportunities. "It's like Cao Cao during the Battle of Guandu, with letters constantly being sent across the river."

But Xinfeng was entirely different. While some new hires left, the vast majority of veteran employees were "determined to weather the storm." The entire company pulled together as one, united in purpose and effort, refusing to give up until they overcame the crisis.

Several employees voluntarily requested to defer their salaries until year-end. Others went to the finance department to fill out forms asking for pay cuts.

"If you were there, you'd be deeply moved. You'd see how years of building corporate culture finally paid off. It might not seem like much when things are smooth sailing, but when real trouble hits, the difference is enormous," said Wu Manhui.
