Application of Explosion-Proof Centrifugal Fans in Tunnel Excavation

Currently, during the excavation of various tunnels and mine shafts, explosion-proof centrifugal fans are often required to supply air to the working face to ensure worker safety. Historically, these operations were primarily driven by local axial flow fans. In contrast, high-pressure centrifugal fans offer distinct advantages in practical applications. First, employing explosion-proof centrifugal fan equipment effectively reduces production downtime. This is achieved by accelerating airflow velocity within the tunnel through forced ventilation via ducts. Statistics indicate that at blasting workfaces, each shift can reduce blasting and smoke clearance time by 0.15 to 1 hour. At machine-excavated workfaces, it eliminates stoppages caused by methane accumulation resulting from continuous operations. Second, the deployment of explosion-proof centrifugal fans significantly improves the on-site working environment. This, in turn, enhances worker productivity. Typically, after fixed installation, duct length can be extended based on excavation distance. This eliminates the need for front and rear silencers required with local exhaust fans, resulting in lower operational noise levels, easier control, and simplified installation and maintenance. Moreover, based on actual tunneling conditions, adjustments are typically made considering factors like tunneling distance, pressure increases, and airflow variations. This is because explosion-proof centrifugal fans reliably ensure ventilation effectiveness. In other words, there's no need to frequently relocate the fan as the tunnel advances; it can meet long-distance local ventilation and airflow requirements. Additionally, it overcomes resistance issues associated with long-distance ventilation. It is important to note that safety considerations warrant particular attention in such projects. Consequently, explosion-proof centrifugal fan equipment has demonstrated advantages in safe production, enhanced productivity, energy efficiency, and adaptability, leading to its widespread adoption in tunnel engineering.
