There are many causes of vibration in rotating machinery. Let’s take a look at the causes of vibration in centrifugal fans. 1. Bearing Housing During our initial inspection, we examined the fasteners securing the bearing housing to the steel base. We observed that two 24-millimeter bolts securing the steel base to the concrete foundation had failed. Any failure of the foundation bolts for the bearing housing or steel base can cause vibration. Since the shaft rotates at very high RPMs with the support of these bearing housings, vibration increases if any foundation bolts become loose or break. If any fasteners are loose, the vibration amplitude will be relatively small while the centrifugal fan is running. However, due to continuous operation, the vibration amplitude will increase over time, leading to further vibration and potentially affecting other fasteners. After continuous operation of the centrifugal fan, if the anchor bolts of the bearing housing or base become loose, the continuous operation and power transmission of the fan will create a significant gap between the concrete foundation block and the base, leading to the failure of the fasteners.
