Causes and Solutions for Abnormal Noises in Medium- and High-Pressure Centrifugal Fans

During daily use, many users may encounter abnormal noises coming from medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fans. There are various reasons for these noises, and the solutions vary accordingly. If an abnormal noise occurs, please stop the machine and carry out an inspection. Today, Bian Xiao will explain the causes of abnormal noises in medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fans and their solutions. Causes 1: Cracks, damage or foreign matter in the bearings. There are many reasons for cracks and damage to bearings, but the dynamic balance of the impeller may be compromised. Due to the imbalance of the impeller, prolonged operation can lead to bearing deformation. Solution: Replace the bearings and verify the balance of the impeller. If conditions permit, carry out a dynamic balance test on the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan. Cause 2: Insufficient lubricating oil. Insufficient lubrication primarily occurs due to leaks from the bearing housing and issues with the housing’s sealing performance. Oil leakage from the bearing housing is a common occurrence; the housing should be inspected regularly or at least once a day prior to start-up. Solution: Top up the lubricating oil. Cause 3: Loose nuts on the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan components. Vibration is unavoidable during prolonged use of the fan. It is necessary to check whether any nuts on the fan or other components have come loose, or whether the bearing washers have loosened. Solution: Retighten. Reason 4: The impeller strikes the inlet or casing The dynamic balance of the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan has been compromised. Due to the loss of balance in the impeller, the bearings may deform during prolonged operation, causing the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan to strike the inlet and casing. In such cases, please stop the machine for maintenance. Solution: Repair and adjustment. Reason 5: Foreign objects sucked into the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan. If the fan sucks in foreign objects, stop the machine and remove the foreign objects from inside the fan. Leaving them for a long time will damage the impeller. Medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan solution: Dismantle. Reason 6: Poor ductwork system, high air velocity There is an abnormal noise in the ductwork, sometimes referred to as a ‘whine’. Check whether there are any issues with the connection between the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan and the ductwork. If no issues are found, the ductwork will need to be repaired. Solution: Modify the ductwork. System Overview: During operation of the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan, the fan may produce abnormal noises. Please stop the machine as soon as possible. Prolonged abnormal noises will affect the service life of the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan. Regular inspections of the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan are as follows. Simple and practical methods can improve the efficiency and service life of the medium- and high-pressure centrifugal fan.
